WEDDING FILM GUIDE
Wedding film names can sound similar while describing very different experiences. Understanding the deliverables helps you compare collections without assuming that every video contains every moment.
A highlight film tells the emotional story
A highlight is a carefully edited short film. It may combine preparations, portraits, ceremony moments, reception scenes, music, and selected spoken words. It is designed to feel complete as a story, rather than replay the entire day in order. A beautiful five-minute film can contain many hours of filming and editing behind it.
A ceremony edit preserves the ceremony itself
A dedicated ceremony edit is usually a longer record of the ceremony, using available camera angles and recorded sound. Ask what “full ceremony” means in the proposal: whether entrances, readings, vows, and the recessional are included, and whether venue restrictions affect the available views. Do not assume a short highlight includes an uninterrupted copy of your vows.
A longer film is a separate creative choice
A feature or documentary-style film gives more room to the day, but the terminology is not standardized. Ask for an example and a written description of the expected format. Toasts and dances may be separate edits, part of a longer film, or optional additions. Runtime alone does not tell you which moments are included.
Your planning checklist
- Ask to see one example of each deliverable.
- Confirm ceremony, toast, and dance edits separately.
- Check the expected runtime range in writing.
- Choose the films you will actually want to revisit.
